How to wire the distribution box wiring holes

Wiring a distribution box involves routing wires through designated holes, connecting them to the correct terminals, and securing them neatly to ensure safety and proper circuit function.

Preparation and Safety

Before starting, cut off the main power supply and verify with a tester that no electricity is present. Wear insulating gloves, safety glasses, and slip-resistant shoes. Prepare all necessary materials including circuit breakers, wires of appropriate gauge, cable ties, insulating tape, and tools such as wire strippers and screwdrivers .

Marking and Drilling Holes

Determine the installation position of the distribution box. Mark the points for mounting and for wiring entry/exit holes. Drill holes of appropriate size and insert expansion bolts to secure the box. Ensure the box is level and stable, and use waterproof types if installed outdoors .

Routing Wires Through Holes

1. Select the correct wire gauge according to the load: typically 2.5mm² for lighting and sockets, 4mm² for high-power appliances like air conditioners .
2. Strip the wire ends to expose the conductor.
3. Insert wires through the designated holes in the box, keeping phase (live), neutral, and ground wires separate. Standard color coding is: blue for neutral, yellow/green for ground, and red/yellow/green for phases A, B, C .
4. Route wires neatly inside the box, avoiding sharp bends and ensuring enough space for heat dissipation. Use cable ties to bundle wires and maintain a straight, organized layout .

Connecting to Terminals

• Connect the incoming main supply to the main MCB or double-pole breaker.
• Connect the output of the main MCB to the input of the RCCB (if used), then connect the output of the RCCB to the branch MCBs .
• Attach neutral wires to the neutral bus bar and ground wires to the earth terminal. Ensure all connections are tight and secure to prevent arcing or overheating .

Final Checks

• Verify that all wires are correctly connected according to the circuit diagram.
• Test insulation resistance and continuity to ensure there are no short circuits or loose connections.
