How to set presets for fiber optic sensors

Fiber optic sensors are set up by mounting the sensor, connecting power and signal lines, calibrating sensitivity, and adjusting operational modes to match detection requirements.

Mounting and Wiring

Begin by securely mounting the fiber optic sensor in the desired location, ensuring the transmitter (T) and receiver (R) are properly aligned for beam or diffuse detection . Connect the power lines (typically brown for +24V and blue for 0V) and the signal line (black) to the control system or relay . Ensure the fiber core is properly positioned and fixed using the provided pedestal or holder.

Initial Sensitivity Calibration

  1. Power on the sensor and observe the LED display for current light intensity .
  2. Place the target object at the farthest detection point and press the SET button to record the baseline intensity .
  3. Move the object to the closest detection point and press SET again. The sensor will automatically calculate the trigger light intensity .
  4. Fine-tune the sensitivity using the △ and ▽ buttons if necessary .

Preset and Datum Settings

  • Use the PRESET button to set reference values for detection, which can help compensate for background reflections or environmental changes .
  • For advanced adjustments, press and hold the SET and PRESET buttons simultaneously for 3 seconds to reset to factory defaults, then initialize the sensor using the MODE and manual buttons .
  • Datum mode (DTM) can be activated to maintain a reference point for consistent detection .

Operational Mode Selection

Fiber optic sensors often include multiple power or detection modes:

  • FINE: Detects small differences over short distances.
  • TURBO: Extends detection range when FINE mode is insufficient.
  • SUPER: Optimized for harsh environments, such as dusty or reflective conditions . Long-press the MODE button for 3 seconds to enter power mode selection, then press again to select timer or output modes .

Output Signal Configuration

Select the output type according to your system requirements:

  • DARK-ON: Output is active when the sensor is blocked.
  • LIGHT-ON: Output is active when the sensor detects light .

Tips for Reliable Operation

  • Regularly clean the fiber tip to prevent dust or dirt from reducing light intensity .
  • Use automatic sensitivity adjustment if the line operation cannot be stopped, which helps maintain consistent detection .
  • Verify alignment and recalibrate if detection inconsistencies occur due to environmental changes or sensor relocation . By following these steps, fiber optic sensors can be accurately set and adjusted for precise detection in industrial automation systems.
