Integrated Power Supply Installation Process

The installation of an Integrated Power Supply (IPS) involves careful site preparation, module assembly, electrical connections, safety checks, and commissioning to ensure reliable AC and DC power for signalling systems.

1. Pre-Installation Preparation

• Site Selection: Install the IPS in a dust-free, well-ventilated area with stable flooring. Ensure the location meets the pre-commissioning checklist requirements for space, ventilation, and accessibility .
• Inspection of Shipment: Check the packaging for transit damage. Inspect the front panel and internal components for loose or broken connections. Report any damage immediately .
• Safety Precautions: Only qualified electrical technicians should perform installation. Remove metal objects (rings, watches) and ensure the AC supply is switched off. Use insulated tools and verify absence of voltage with a suitable voltmeter .

2. Module and Panel Installation

• Panel Placement: Mount the IPS panels on a bottom channel with anti-vibration pads. Ensure proper alignment and secure fastening .
• Module Assembly: The SMPS-based IPS typically includes FRBC (Float Rectifier cum Boost Charger) modules, Distribution Supervisory Control & Alarm (DSA) units, inverters, AVR, transformers, and metering sections . Install each module according to the manufacturer's schematic diagrams.
• Battery Installation: Place batteries in a separate room. Use low-maintenance or VRLA cells as per specifications. Connect battery terminals carefully, ensuring correct polarity .

3. Electrical Connections

• AC Input: Connect the 230V AC input to the designated terminals. Ensure proper earthing of the panel .
• DC Output: Connect DC outputs to signalling circuits as per the interconnection wiring diagram. Verify all PCB connections are secure and in correct positions .
• Fuses and Protection: Check all fuses and protective devices. Do not alter potentiometer or preset settings before powering the unit .

4. Safety and Preliminary Checks

• Voltage Verification: Confirm that no voltage is present at input or output before making connections .
• Visual Inspection: Ensure all cables are properly routed, terminals tightened, and no loose components exist .
• Environmental Checks: Verify temperature, humidity, and contamination levels are within operational limits .

5. Commissioning

• Power-On Sequence: Switch on the AC supply and monitor LED indicators for proper operation. The FRBC panel serves as the main power source for the IPS system .
• Functional Testing: Check AC and DC outputs, battery charging, and alarm signals. Ensure redundancy and module operation are functioning correctly .
• Troubleshooting: Address any abnormal readings or alarms before connecting signalling circuits fully .

6. Post-Installation Maintenance

• Routine Checks: Periodically inspect fuses, battery health, and module connections. Clean dust from components to maintain efficiency .
