If the fault cannot be determined, contact technical support for guidance .

Step 2: Visual Inspection

Perform a visual inspection of the cable and connectors. Look for:

  • Contamination on connector ferrules (dust, oil, or lint)
  • Physical damage such as bends, kinks, or pinched sections
  • Improper routing or tight loops that exceed the cable's bend radius

Step 3: Cleaning and Reconnection

If contamination is suspected:

  • Use a fiber microscope to inspect end-faces
  • Clean connectors with approved lint-free wipes, cleaning pens, or cassette cleaners

Step 5: Use an Optical Time-Domain Reflectometer (OTDR)

For long or buried runs, an OTDR measures distance to faults:

  • Connect the OTDR to the fiber
  • Perform a test to identify breaks, splices, or high-loss points
  • Dispatch repair crews to the exact location if necessary

Step 6: Repair or Replace Faulty Sections

  • Re-route or replace damaged cable sections
